Nevada DOE and Gold Mines Renew Discovery Education Partnership

Discovery Education Partnership Renewed to Support Nevada Educators and Students

The statewide partnership between the Nevada Department of Education, Discovery Education, and Nevada Gold Mines has been renewed for a fifth year, continuing a program that enhances teaching and learning across all 17 counties in Nevada. This collaboration provides free access to Discovery Education’s K–12 digital resources for classroom teachers, students, and families, helping educators build engaging, modern learning experiences for learners in rural, urban, and suburban communities.

Since the partnership began in 2020, more than 24,000 Nevada educators and approximately 344,000 students have engaged with Discovery Education’s content, generating 4.6 million recorded interactions with the platform’s digital materials. The latest 12‑month renewal preserves uninterrupted access to these resources for teachers and students statewide.

“We are incredibly pleased to continue this powerful collaboration benefiting the state of Nevada,” said Jhone Ebert, Superintendent of Public Instruction. “Together with our community partners at Nevada Gold Mines, we’ve been able to create digital content that not only supports students’ academic achievement, but also connects what is learned in the classroom to potential careers right here in our state. The renewal of this impactful partnership preserves Nevada students’ access to best-in-class digital resources, and we look forward to continuing to work on our joint mission to prepare today’s learners for a bright future beyond graduation.”

The initiative began in July 2020 when the Nevada Department of Education announced that Discovery Education Experience, a comprehensive K–12 learning platform, would be available free of charge to all Nevada educators and students. Making the platform available to families across the state helped ensure continuity of learning and increased access to high-quality digital content.

Nevada is one of several states using Discovery Education resources at scale. Other statewide partnerships include programs in Louisiana, New Hampshire, Mississippi, Montana, and South Carolina. These wider deployments reflect a growing recognition of the value digital resources and professional learning can bring to state education systems.

“Nevada Gold Mines is honored to continue this impactful partnership that supports students across Nevada,” said Leslie Goicoechea, Manager, Community Engagement & Development for Nevada Gold Mines. “By helping prepare students for success in both higher education and the workforce, we are contributing to the prosperity of our state. We are proud to be part of an initiative that is making a tangible difference in student achievement and are excited to see the continued positive outcomes for Nevada’s future.”

In addition to providing ongoing access to digital learning tools, Nevada Gold Mines has strengthened its long-term commitment to Nevada education by investing an additional $500,000 to support state efforts to increase the number of high-quality educators. As a major global mining organization, Nevada Gold Mines supports a broad set of social and economic initiatives—including education, environment, health, economic development, and cultural heritage—and has invested nearly $5 million to enhance education across the state to date.

Independent, third-party research has begun to measure the partnership’s impact on student outcomes. Preliminary findings indicate that schools using Discovery Education resources saw positive effects on science achievement and progress toward narrowing achievement gaps. Coni Rechner, Senior Vice President of State and Strategic Partnerships for Discovery Education, noted that these early results are encouraging and underscore the value of continued collaboration among the state, Discovery Education, and Nevada Gold Mines.

All Nevada educators using Discovery Education’s digital resources also have access to the Discovery Educator Network, a global community of education professionals. The network connects teachers and leaders across school systems through virtual events, social media, and in-person conferences, fostering collaboration, sharing of best practices, and ongoing professional learning.
